Donning and doffing

Donning

  1. Perform hand hygiene.
  2. Put no gown, tying the neck and waist securely.
  3. Put on mask or respirator, placing mask over nose and under chin, securing ties and straps, moulding the metal nosepiece, and performing a seal check (if respirator).
  4. Put on eye protection, either goggles or a face shield.
  5. Put on gloves.

Doffing

  1. Remove gloves using a glove-to-glove, skin-to-skin technique, and discarding immediately.
  2. Remove gown without contaminating clothing or skin by starting with waist ties, then neck ties, then pulling it forward from the neck and roll it to keep the contaminated outside of the gown on the inside of the roll.
  3. Perform hand hygiene.
  4. Remove eye protection, touching only the arms of the goggles and headband of the face shield (which are considered to be clean).
  5. Remove mask or respirator, touching only the ties/loops/straps (which are considered to be clean), removing by the bottom strap then the top strap, and discarding immediately.
  6. Perform hand hygiene.
