Background
- Glycopeptide antibiotic, similar to vancomycin
- Indicated for acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections in adults, but is being used off-label for osteomyelitis and infective endocarditis
- Spectrum includes gram-positive cocci, including MRSA
- Costs about CAD3000 per dose (CAD1000 per 500 mg vial)
Dosing
- ABSSSI:
- 1500 mg IV once, or
- 1000 mg IV followed by 500 mg IV 1 week later
