- The goal is to reduce the positive reinforcement from the substance while increasing positive reinforcement from healthier behaviours
- Uses things like vouchers orpoints to reward staying in treatment and remaining drug-free
- Vouchers are sometimes exchangable for items or money
- Some evidence that it can decrease stimulant use but doesn't necessarily affect dropout rate
