Celiac disease

Definition
- Syndrome characterized by autoimmune response to gluten proteins
Etiology
- Unclear but associated with other autoimmune disorders
Investigations
- Anti-TTG IgA antibodies with immunoglobulins to rule out IgA deficiency
- If IgA-deficient, can follow up with anti-TTG IgG antibodies and DGP IgG antibodies
- Duodenal biopsy is the gold standard
- HLA DQ2 and DQ8 genotyping is essentially 100% sensitive, so can rule out Celiac disease is cases of unceratinty after the above investigations
