Background
Microbiology
- Yeast previously known as Candida glabrata (previously in the genus Candida)
- Colonies are small, white to cream-colours, and shiny, pasty, and smooth
- On microscopy, they are small and oval, typically in dense groups, and have terminal single budding
- Pseudohyphae are absent (or rudimentary if present)
Clinical Manifestations
- Same as for Candida
Management
- In general, the same as for Candida
- Of note, isolates are often fluconazole-resistant, though they may be dose-dependent susceptible
