Atovaquone-proguanil

  • Combination of atovaquone and proguanil (typically 250 mg-100 mg per tablet, or 62.5 mg-25 mg for a pediatric tablet)
  • Used as an antimalarial

Dosing

  • Treatment: 1000 mg/400 mg (4 tablets) p.o. once daily for 3 days
  • Prophylaxis: 250 mg/100 mg (1 tablet) p.o. once daily, from 1 to 2 days before arrival to 7 days after return

Pediatric

  • Treatment:
    • 5 to 8 kg: 125 mg/50 mg (2 pediatric tablets) once daily for 3 days
    • 9 to 10 kg: 187.5 mg/75 mg (3 pediatric tablets) once daily for 3 days
    • 11 to 20 kg: 250 mg/100 mg (1 adult tablet) once daily for 3 days
    • 21 to 30 kg: 500 mg/200 mg (2 adult tablets) once daily for 3 days
    • 31 to 40 kg: 750 mg/300 mg (3 adult tablets) once daily for 3 days
    • >40 kg: 1000 mg/400 mg (4 adult tablets) once daily for 3 days
