Indications
Prevention of Surgical Site Infections
- Most operations should get cefazolin
- Consider adding metronidazole for clean-contaminated or contaminated procedures
- Duration less than 24 hours
Prevention of UTI
- Asymptomatic bacteriuria
- Invasive urological procedures
- Pregnancy
Prevention of Endocarditis
- Dental procedures that involve ginvial manipulation or periapical region of teeth or perforation of oral mucosa if high risk
- Prosthetic heart valves
- Previous IE
- Cardiac transplant with valve regurg
- something else
- Not recommended for non-dental procedures including scopes
