- Polysaccharide component of many fungal cell walls
- Used to diagnose invasive fungal infection, particularly Pneumocystis jirovecii and hepatosplenic candidiasis
- Also positive with histoplasmosis
- False positives are possible due to antibiotics, bacteremia, enterocolitis, cellulose dialysis filters, or surgical gauzes, as well as blood products including IVIG
